Home delivery meal suppliers, such as Tender Loving Cuisine, are about to experience a boom of their own thanks to Australia's baby boomers.
Statistics already show that one person out of every ten is now 60 or above and by 2050 this figure will be one in five.
As the baby boomers, those born between 1945 and 1960, hit 60 they are set to become the convenience or "home delivery" generation.
The majority of baby boomers believe they will continue working and also continue living in their own homes during their "golden years". No nursing homes for them.
Australia's baby boomers with assets will most likely follow the growing US-trend and move into serviced apartments or small lifestyle villages.
In New York the over sixties are already seeking expensive apartments that provide prepared, ready to eat meals as part of the rent agreement.
Last year the Hyatt Corporation opened its first senior residence in New York State. It had an assisted-living component, where residents paid $US3,300 per month for a one-bedroom unit under a plan that included two meals a day and weekly servicing of the apartment.
